Jeff Bezos Reveals Lunar Lander, Plans to take Astronauts to the moon by 2024

Aside from being the founder and CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos is also the founder of a privately funded aerospace manufacturer, Blue Origin. Bezos has been public about his admiration for the outer space which is what drove him to launch his company Blue Origin, with a goal of making space travel possible for everyone.

Bezos plans to send the Lunar Lander, called Blue moon,

to Shackleton Crater at the moon’s south pole. The Trump administration stated earlier this year that America plans to bring humans back on the moon in the next five years.

Here is what Bezos had to say about that statement.

“We can help meet that timeline”

“But only because we started three years ago. It’s time to go back to the Moon – this time to stay.”

However, Bezos isn’t the only billionaire fascinated by the outer space. Founder of Tesla, Elon Musk has his own Aerospace company, SpaceX, and they both share one common goal. Which is to make space travel eligible for everyone.

The first country to successfully land a spacecraft on the outer side of the moon was China, when the Chang’e 4 lander reached the lunar surface on Jan. 2.

The reason for Bezos wanting to land his new spacecraft on the outer side of the moon is because it is home to ‘Water ice’ which could be mined and potentially be turned into rocket fuel and drinking water.

“One of the most important things we know about the Moon today is that there’s water there,” Bezos said. “It’s in the form of ice. It’s in the permanently shadowed craters on the poles of the Moon, and water is an incredibly valuable resource.”

Bezos has apparently been working on the ‘Blue Moon’ since 2017. Bezos has often said that his dream is to have millions of people living and working on the moon. Although with Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk’s new companies, which are giving a huge boost to reaching that goal, many scientist think that is highly unlikely to ever happen.
