Why is Scorpion Venom so expensive? Here’s what you need to know

In addition to probably being one of the ingredients that characterize many people’s nightmares, Scorpion venom is also a liquid that can make you rich, very rich. But why is scorpion venom so expensive?

This substance and in particular the substance contained in the bite of the yellow scorpion (Leiurus quinquestriatus) is worth a remarkable figure of $39 million per gallon.

Here are what make this liquid the most expensive

The element contained in scorpion venom is not only used to meet its threats. The substance is very useful in medicine and is at the heart of many experiences from one end of the world to the other.

For example, chlorotoxin has the ability to bind certain cancer cells in the brain and spinal cord, which helps to identify the tumor. In addition, scorpion venom has also been used to eliminate malaria from mosquitos. All this is what makes scorpion venom extremely popular; and pricy.

In order to get the venom out of a scorpion, it is most often stroked by hand – without hurting them. Which is a very slow process, a process that picks up a derisory amount: in each session, one picks up about 2 milligrams of poison.

To give you an idea, id you were thinking of buying a scorpion to get rich, you would have to milk your pet almost 3 million times to fill a gallon, and probably get stung along the way.

Currently, some researchers are developing a machine capable of extracting the poison from several scorpions at the same time, in order to speed up the process.
